Bulgarian President Calls for Turning Cinema into National Priority

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev called on Tuesday for turning the cinema industry into a national priority.

Plevneliev discussed the perspectives for the development of movie production and the cinema industry during his meeting with the management of Nu Boyana Film Studio, the presidential press service reports.

The Head of State revealed that over 850 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are involved in the cinema industry, while the investments in the sector amounted to more than USD 100 M.

The President stated that the cinema industry was beneficial for the country's image abroad, especially when world movie stars visited Bulgaria for shooting movies.

According to him, there were opportunities for triple increases of investments, employment and the number of movies produced in Bulgaria.

Plevneliev said that the state should turn the cinema industry into a national priority by finding the respective measures for support of the sector.

In his words, the encouragement of foreign investments in the sector will also stimulate the production of Bulgarian movies.

Plevneliev assured his support for Bulgarian movies, which were of world quality, and encouraged continuing the work on new Bulgarian productions.
