Debris of Germanwings Plane Located near Village in French Alps

A website Flightradar24.com has shown the plane's last location while it was still in the air.

Wreckage from the Airbus A320 that fell down in the French Alps has been located, a French Interior Ministry spokesman says.

Pierre-Henry Brandet told French media outlets the passenger jet, which was carrying 142 passengers and 6 crew, cashed at an altitude of 2000 meters.

French President Francois Hollande says all people on board are feared dead. Many Germans and 45 Spaniards are thought to have been on the plane.

The area around the crash site is "uninhabited", although it lies just a few kilometers from the town of Barcelonette, according to France 24. Heavy snow in the area will most likely hinder access.

The sink rate while the plane was going down was reported at 3000-4000 ft/m (equal to about 1000 meters), close to the standard rate for landing approach.

There have been no reports of survivors so far.

Reports of the website FlightRadar 24 suggest that the crashed plane was one of the oldest vehicles operated by Germanwings and had been in use since 1991.
