Bulgaria’s Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova has suggested that a tough summer season lies ahead.

In a Monday interview for the Bulgarian National Radio, Angelkova suggested that industry representatives had to join efforts to use EU funds to boost the quality of the product.

“Bulgaria’s tourism market is not limited to Ukraine and Russia and the outflow does not depend on Bulgaria and was not caused by Bulgaria,” she declared.

Citing preliminary data, Angelkova announced that interest in Bulgaria had increased by 5% among German nationals, by 6-7% among Polish nationals, by around 40% among Latvians and Lithuanians, by 5-10% among citizens of neighboring countries, and by 4-5% among French nationals.

Stressing that the tourism sector was 100%, she said that the authorities would do their best to help.

Angelkova reminded that Bulgaria had launched a procedure for simplifying the visa requirements for citizens of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Armenia.
