Director of Bulgaria's Traffic Police Resigns

The director of Bulgaria's Traffic Police (KAT) Anton Antonov submitted a notice for leave, but his resignation has not been accepted yet.

Antonov resigned due to personal reasons, but will remain within the system of the Interior Ministry, daily Dnevnik reports.

Meanwhile, it was announced that the management of the General Directorate National Police will experience staff cuts, the lay off expected to be around 20 %.

All people laid off from the National Police will be redirected to vacant places within the various department of the Interior Ministry.

According to sources, the lay off is necessitated after part of the functions of the National Police will be transferred to the General Directorate Combating Organised Crime (GDBOP).

GDBOP will be reinstated back within the Interior Ministry after a short spell under the authority of the State Agency for National Security (DANS).
