Bulgaria's Workforce Increased Slightly in 2014 – NSI

The latest data of the National Statistical Institute (NSI), which was released on Monday, shows that Bulgaria's workforce registered a slight increase in 2014.

According to the data, the number of economically active persons, aged between 15 and 64, amounted to 3 308 700, which represents 69 % of the population in the same age category.

Thus, compared to 2013, the coefficient of economic activity registered a slight increase of 0.6 %.

The total number of employed people was 2 981 400, which represents 48 % of the population aged 15 or above.

The number of employed people, aged between 15 and 64, amounted to 2 927 400.

The employment coefficient for the population falling in the same age category was 61 %, the figure being higher for men (63.9%) than women (58.2 %).

The employment coefficient was 65.1 % for those falling in the 20-64 age group, registering an increase of 1.7 % compared to 2013.

The employment coefficient for those aged between 55-64 was 50 %, recording an increase of 2.6 % compared to 2013.

The number of unemployed people amounted to 384 500, with more men being in unemployment than women.

The unemployment coefficient decreased with 1.5 % compared to 2013, reaching a level of 11.4 %.

Although this coefficient was almost double for the age category 15-24, amounting to 23.8 %, it similarly registered a decrease compared to 2013.

The number of people continuously unemployed amounted to 232 500, representing 60.5 % of all those in unemployment.

The number of people economically inactive, aged 15-64, amounted to 1 486 900, the respective coefficient being 31 %.
