New Riots in Ferguson Leave 2 Police Officers Wounded

Two police officers have been hit during unrest in the town of Ferguson, Missouri (US), officials say.

The condition of the two injured is not yet known, authorities report as cited by USA Today.

Officials have called the violence "just awful".

On Wednesday evening, a protest began in the streets of Ferguson outside the police department, amid tensions that have remained high since last year's incident.

Earlier, Ferguson police chief Thomas Jackson stepped down, in a move following last year's shooting of the unarmed black teenager Michal Brown and the ensuing riots.
