More than Half of Bulgarians Want Cabinet to Complete Mandate - Survey

According to the latest survey of Exacta Research Group, which was released on Monday, more than half of Bulgarians – 52 % prefer the government to complete its mandate.

The same number of Bulgarians – 52 % support the introduction of compulsory voting, while 36 % oppose it.

The compulsory voting is approved primarily by women, people aged between 30 and 40 as well as those above 60 and citizens of the countryside, while it is unacceptable to the ethnic minorities.

The work of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov is approved by 43 %, while 45 % are not satisfied with him.

The support towards Borisov increases with 4 % after the parliamentary elections in October 2014, while the disapproval decreases with 3 %.

The opposite trend is observed with President Rosen Plevneliev, who has a lower approval rating - 39 % compared to October 2014, while his critics increase to reach 48 %.

Health Minister Petar Moskov has the highest approval rating – 49 %, exceeding even that of Prime Minister Borisov.

Moskov is followed by Regional Minister Lilyana Pavlova with 48 % and Deputy Prime Minister Ivaylo Kalfin, who is approved by 41 % of the respondents.

According to the study, 31 % of Bulgarians approve the government's first 100 days in office, while 55 % are not satisfied.

One fifth of respondents could not point to any positive achievements in the government's first 100 days in office and about the same number – 21 % call for early parliamentary elections.

According to 7 % of the respondents, the most important achievement of the government's first 100 days in office was restoring the confidence of European institutions towards Bulgaria.

Another 6 % point to the improved and more tolerant political tone, the change in the behaviour of PM Borisov and the evolving coalition culture between the parties supporting the government.

People above 60 years of age, those with lower education and Bulgarians with poor living standards are among the fiercest critics of the government.

The National Assembly continues to be the state institution with the highest disapproval rating – 67 %, with only 18 % approving it.

In case early parliamentary elections were to take place, the main ruling party GERB would win with 27.4 % of the votes, followed by opposition BSP and DPS with respectively 11.1 % and 8.2 %.

The junior coalition partners from the Reformist Bloc (RB) would attract 5.5 % of the votes, followed by the Patriotic Front (PF) with 4.5 %, ABV and Ataka with 3 % each.
