Bulgarian actor Julian Kostov, who lives and works in London will participate in a modern remake of the classic Biblical epic Ben-Hur. The filming of the project is ongoing and it is expected that the ready film will be released in cinemas in 2016.

The director of the movie is the Russian-Kazakh director Timur Bekmambetov, Monitor daily reported.

The new movie is planned to represent a modern re-make of the historical film Ben-Hur (1959), directed by the acclaimed William Wyler. The drama had a record budget of USD 15 M at the time, unseen before in film history.

The contemporary version will present the New Testament events through the eyes of a wealthy Jewish tradesman, named Judas Ben-Hur.

Bulgarian Julian Kostov will be playing a Roman citizen named Lucius, alongside none other but Morgan Freeman (playing Ilderim) and Rodrigo Santoro ( portraying Jesus Christ himself).

Working with the likes of Freeman and Santoro is not a completely new experience for the Bulgarian actor. In 2014 he took part in the hit TV series 24:Live Another Day, along Kiefer Sutherland, who personally came and congratulated Kostov on the good performance as agent Harwell.

In the beginning of the year, Julian also took part in Color Me Grey - a thriller telling the story of several mafia fractions holding illegal businesses but working in peace with each other.

''There is Bulgarian mafia featured in the film, and I am playing the son of the boss,'' he said in a news conference. ''My character is sophisticated, educated, inevitably arrogant, ruthless, charismatic and a little sadistic.''
