Bulgaria’s Economy Ministry has proposed three new projects to be included on the list of projects seeking funding under the Investment Plan of European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

Responding to a question of socialist MP Georgi Bozhinov, Economy Minister Bozhidar Lukarski said in Parliament that one of the projects involved the conversion of the Stara Zagora Airport into an international aviation and cargo hub providing a connection between Europe and Asia.

He said that the second project involved turning the Trakia Economic Zone into one of the major centers of industry in Bulgaria.
Lukarski, as cited by investor.bg, stated that the third project was called “Green Alternative” and it involved the production of top-quality products in the region of Pazardzhik.

Bulgaria’s Economy Minister made clear that all three projects would be implemented under the principle of public-private partnership.

He reminded that the Council of Ministers had already approved a list of the projects to be financed under the Juncker plan, adding that the government had had too little time for response.

Lukarski informed that the Economy Ministry had subsequently selected a list of projects matching the characteristics of the Juncker Plan and the goals listed in it, as well as the needs of businesses in Bulgaria.

He also pointed out that for Bulgaria’s coordinating authority under the investment mechanism was the Finance Ministry, while the Economy Ministry was just a participant.
