There are three potential successors to Interior Minister Veselin Vuchkov, 24 Chasa daily reported on Wednesday, several hours after Vuchkov resigned.

According to unofficial preliminary information, the potential candidates are Yordan Bakalov, Kalin Georgiev and Metodi Andreev, 24 Chasa said.

The nomination of Vuchkov’s successor should be made by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov who has already accepted Vuchkov’s resignation.

Kalin Georgiev was Interior Ministry Chief Secretary in Borisov’s previous government (2009-2013). Prevoiusly, he headed the Criminal Police Chief Directorate.

Yordan Bakalov was Interior Minister in the caretaker cabinet of Prime Minister Georgi Bliznashki that governed for several months last year before the snap elections that brought to power Borisov’s centre-right GERB party.

Metodi Andreev, a former head of the Files Commission, the body investigating the secret files of the Communist-era State Security police, currently is a member of Parliament from GERB.
