Thousands of people are expected to gather in Moscow on Sunday afternoon to honour the memory of assassinated Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov.

Opposition supporters plan to march from central Moscow to the Great Moskvoretsky Bridge near the Kremlin where Nemtsov was shot dead on Friday. Moscow city authorities had approved the march from 3 pm (1200 GMT), allowing for up to 50,000 people to attend.

A huge pile of flowers is now standing on the spot where the critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin President  and a former deputy prime minister was gunned down close to the Kremlin.

There are placards reading "We are all Nemtsov" and "Je Suis Boris" in an apparent reference to the message “Je Suis Charlie” carried by thousands of people during marches around the world following the massacre at the Paris office of Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine in January.

Nemtsov was due to lead an opposition march on the outskirts of Moscow on Sunday to protest against Putin's economic policies and what opposition perceives as Kremlin's involvement in the conflict in eastern Ukraine. Moscow has persistently denied any role in the fighting between pro-Russian separatists and Ukrainian government forces.
