Bulgarians Completed More Tourist Trips at End of 2014

In the last quarter of 2014 over 790 000 Bulgarian citizens completed tourist trips, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) reports in its latest data, which was released on Friday.

This represents an increase of 15.4 % compared to the number of people, who completed tourist trips during the same period of 2013.

The overwhelming majority of the travelers – 86.8 % went on a trip only within Bulgaria, 9.9 % went only abroad, while 3.4 % traveled both domestically and abroad.

Compared to the last quarter of 2013, the number of people traveling within Bulgaria increased with 24.1 %, while those going abroad decreased with 30.2 %.

Bulgarians aged between 25-44 were most active in going on tourist trips, accounting for 46.3 % of all travelers.

The overwhelming majority of Bulgarians in these age category went on a domestic trip, while people aged between 45-64 were the most active in traveling abroad.

The majority of the tourist trips within the country were made in order to visit relatives, while holiday was the primary reason for those going abroad.

The average expenses of a traveler going on a personal trip within the country amounted to BGN 187 and BGN 680 for trip abroad.

The corresponding numbers for a business trip stood at BGN 167 and BGN 701 in the last quarter of 2014.

Transport constituted the highest share of expenses both for travelers within the country and abroad.
