Over BGN 20 M in old debt on account of garbage collection and property taxes that have remained outstanding are owed by state-owned establishments in Bulgaria.
Interior and Defence ministries owe over BGN 1 M in debt accumulated over the past five years, as reported by Pressa daily.
Higher education institutions are in the lead of the overall chart with Sofia University St. St. Kliment Ohridski owing BGN 10M, University of Mining and Geology St. Ivan Rilski - BGN 780, 000, University of Forestry - BGN 423, 000, National Sports Academy - BGN 400, 000, National Academy of Theater and Film Arts (NATFA) - BGN 75, 000.
Deputy Mayor Doncho Barbalov announced that most institutions have agreed to negotiate on repayment schemes, while Sofia University has stated that it is ready to sue the Sofia municipality and will not pay for anything until their guilt is established.
This year the municipality of the capital is expected to raise BGN 259 M in taxes, an increase of BGN 19 M over 2013.
Meanwhile, all people who have not registered their vehicles by the end of 2014 could still do that by the end of February. They will still need to pay additional BGN 20 for the delay in case they are private owners and BGN 100 if they are legal entities.
