Bulgaria PM, Ukraine Foreign Minister Discuss Humanitarian Aid, Visas

Sending humanitarian aid to ethnic Bulgarians in Ukraine and proportional mobilisation of Ukrainian servicemen belonging to various ethnic groups have been discussed on Monday by Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin.

Bulgaria can deliver assistance and share experience in integration into European structures, Borisov said at a meeting with Klimkin who is on an official visit to Bulgaria.

The Minsk ceasefire agreement creates a genuine opportunity to reach a peaceful settlement to the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Borisov and Klimkin said, the Bulgarian government’s press office said in a statement.

Issuing visas to ethnic Bulgarians under a fast-track procedure was also among the issues discussed at the meeting.

A coordination centre tasked with maintaining a constant contact between Bulgaria and ethnic Bulgarians living in Ukraine will be set up, Borisov and the visiting chairman of the Association of Bulgarians in the country and member of Ukraine’s Parliament Anton Kisse decided.

The coordination centre is expected to ensure enhanced dialogue and will boost confidence that Bulgaria is really committed to providing assistance to Ukraine’s ethnic Bulgarians affected by the conflict.
