Bulgarian households had higher expenses at the end of 2014 compared to the same period in 2013, while their incomes remained the same.

This becomes evident from the National Statistical Institute (NSI) data on incomes and expenses of households for the last quarter of 2014, which was released on Monday.

At the end of 2014 a member of a household had an average income of BNG 1227, recording no change compared to the same period in 2013.

In the last quarter of 2014 a member of a household had on average expenses amounting to BGN 1171, which represents an increase of 3.1 %, compared to the same period a year ago.

Food constitutes the largest share of expenses, followed by expenses on housing and utilities, transport and messages, healthcare, alcoholic beverages and cigarettes, clothing and shoes.

The average consumption of main foodstuffs by a member of a household decreased in the last quarter of 2014.

The most notable drop is registered in the consumption of eggs, followed by bread, potatoes, fruits and vegetables.

At the end of 2014 the consumption of meat products and beans remained the same as it had been in 2013.
