Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry considers the opening of three new border crossing points on the border with Macedonia a very important initiative, according to Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov.
Speaking Friday in Parliament, Mitov informed that the agreement from June 14, 1999 on the opening of two border crossing points on the Bulgaria-Macedonia border, Simitli-Pehchevo and Strumiani-Berovo, was in force.
Mitov, as cited by the BGNES news agency, stated that it would be a good idea to discuss the Strumiani – Berovo border crossing point at the next sitting of the joint committee.
He assured that there was continuity at the Foreign Ministry regarding the responsibilities for opening new border crossing points and the construction of cross-border corridors.
Mitov noted that the opening of new border crossing points on the Bulgaria-Macedonia border was important for increasing traffic between the two countries.
He said that the step would bring economic benefits and enhance cross-border connections.
Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister claimed that this would also create new opportunities for Macedonia in its efforts towards EU integration.
