Mobile operator Telenor said on Tuesday it is launching an educational campaign on Internet safety in collaboration with the Bulgarian Ministry of the Interior and the Bulgarian Safer Internet Node.

The initiative was announced in alignment with the Safer Internet Day, traditionally marked by Telenor. It was the first one to introduce safety and child sexual abuse filters for mobile phones, after a series of discussions with Interpol and the European Commission’s CEO Coalition.

With the increased usage of technologies and Internet, over 55 M children are expected to go online worldwide by 2017.

Telenor Chief Executive Officer Stein-Erik Vellan, the Interior Minister Vesselin Vuchkov and the Executive Director of the Applied Research and Communications Fund Nikolay Badinski signed the partnership agreement on Tuesday.

Telenor Bulgaria is the latest addition to the global communication group. The former mobile service operator GloBul, owned by Telenor was re-branded in 2014 due to financial losses.

A number of workshops and seminars will be organized for 12-15 year old children in five cities across the country. Additionally, the participants and their parents will be able to enjoy several outdoor activities.

An official digital awareness campaign, focusing on social media will also be published.
