The ownership of the Ruse Airport has been officially transferred to Bulgaria’s Ruse Municipality.

Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski and the Mayor of the Ruse Municipality, Plamen Stoilov, signed Wednesday a contract on the free-of-charge transfer of 100% of the assets of Ruse Airport EOOD to the Ruse Municipality, according to the press office of the Bulgarian government.

The transfer of the ownership of the Ruse Airport to the Ruse Municipality was made possible by a decision of the government from December 2014.

The transfer of the responsibility for the governance and management of the Ruse Airport to the Ruse Municipality is to serve the interests of the local community.

Local authorities repeatedly expressed interest in the acquisition of Ruse Airport due to its strategic location and the possibility to combine transportation of freight by air, road, rail, and water, according to investor.bg.

The resumption of operations of the airport is also expected to create jobs.

The airport is currently non-operational.

Since 2007, a total of three concession procedures have been launched for the airport.

The authorities failed to find a concessionaire for Ruse Airport as no candidate filed a bid.
