Bulgarian Interior Minister Veselin Vuchkov announced on Monday that he plans to propose to the government a new candidate for the position of Chief Secretary.

Vuchkov said that the proposal will be submitted once the parliament approves the amendments to the Interior Ministry Act, which is expected to happen until the end of next week.

According to him, this office should be occupied by a person possessing considerable experience in the system of the Interior Ministry, Vuchkov said in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).

At the end of 2014, the parliament approved at first reading the amendments to the Interior Ministry Act.

According to one of the amendments, the President will be restored with the power to appoint the Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry.

Another amendment provides for the State Agency for National Security (DANS) to retain its partial capacity to use special intelligence means (SRS).

Another change foresees the return of the General Directorate Combating Organised Crime (GDBOP) under the authority of the Interior Ministry.
