The Chair of the State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (DKEVR) Svetla Todorova announced that an increase in the price of electricity was unavoidable during the year.

Todorova assured that the anticipated hike will not happen in April, but she specified neither a concrete date nor the amount by which the price will increase, daily Dnevnik reports.

DKEVR will request concrete estimates from the three electricity distribution companies (EDCs) prior to its decision on the increase of the price of electricity.

Iliyan Iliev, member of DKEVR, said on Tuesday that the change in price was not on the regulator's agenda, as such a request has not been submitted by the EDCs.

As regards the inspections carried out on the EDCs, Todorova stated that DKEVR had taken all the acceptable measures.

The energy watchdog had requested detailed information on the planned and actual schedules for which electricity readings were taken.

The complaints of customers have also been addressed.

Todorova said that the EDCs have observed the law and she did not rule out the possibility that the problem with double bills could have arisen from the software used by the companies.
