Bulgaria’s Ministry of Tourism has launched a campaign to advertise 50 little-known tourist sites around the country.

The financing for the campaign is provided under a project worth BGN 1.9 M, VAT excluded, under the EU operational program "Regional Development".

The project aimed at promoting domestic tourism involves TV spots for the 50 sites, to be aired by three TV channels with nation-wide coverage, advertorials, and a new website offering information about the sites.

The project is to be completed by August 2015.

The official website of the campaign, myastoto.bg, will be launched in February and will allow tourists to share their experiences with the world.

Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova announced at a press conference on Monday that the campaign to promote domestic tourism was aimed at compensating for the decrease in the number of Russian and Ukrainian tourists.

She vowed to inspect the condition of the 50 sites in person to see if any improvements were necessary.

''We certainly have a lot of work to do when it comes to infrastructure, so we will be looking for additional sources of funding for these activities,'' Angelkova said, as cited by investor.bg.

According to a survey conducted before the launch of the campaign, 61% of those polled are willing to spend their holidays in domestic resorts, provided that they have sufficient information about the respective spots.
