The armed man, who took hostages at a post office in the French town of Colombes, has surrendered to the police with no casualties suffered.

The abductor, who was in the possession of military weapons, took at least two hostages at the post office of Colombes, north-west of Paris, the Guardian reports.

Earlier, the police announced that the incident did not appear to be linked with the previous acts of extremism.

An unidentified source, cited by BFM TV, said that the latest hostage drama was not related to last week's terrorist attacks in Paris.

French police arrested twelve people on Friday, who are suspected of helping the perpetrators in carrying out the killings in Paris last week.

Since the attacks, there have been numerous false signals in the city.
