CNG Cylinders Explode Near Bulgaria’s Razlog, No People Hurt

Cylinders containing compressed natural gas (CNG) have exploded at a de-pressurisation station just outside the town of Razlog, in southwestern Bulgaria, causing a series of blasts and a major fire, authorities said.

No people were killed or hurt during the accident that occurred at about 1.30 am local time on Sunday (1130 GMT Saturday) at the de-pressurization station located on the outskirts of the town near the road linking it with the village of Banya.

Authorities believe a technical malfunction of the equipment or a human error at the de-pressurisation station owned by Bulgaria’s Overgas Inc.has triggered a chain of explosions of about 50 CNG cylinders that were loaded onto trailers parked at the station.

Natural gas supply to Razlog and the nearby ski resort of Bansko has been temporarily suspended.
