The Bansko Municipality seeks to sign a concession contract for the ski zone near Dobrinishte, as well as the new tourism zones delineated in the forthcoming management plan of the Pirin National Park, according to Bansko Mayor Geogi Ikonomov.

Ikonomov, as cited by the Bulgarian National Radio, informed Friday that he would submit a proposal with the Environment Ministry next week for awarding a concession contract for the ski zone near Dobrinishte.

He suggested that it was a realistic and fair scenario for the municipality and local tourism to be the new concessionaires of the site, thereby avoiding the monopoly position in the ski resort.

Ikonomov underscored that there was an option for a union of hotel and restaurant owners and the municipality being awarded the concession contract for the new areas in the ski zone in Bansko and in Dobrinishte.

As regards the newly established inter-institutional working group tasked with analyzing the concession contract of the Yulen company for the Bansko ski zone, Ikonomov said that the entity would clear the unresolved problems of the past few years.

He also demanded that the same commission come up with a stance on the proposal of the municipality for amending the existing management plan for the Pirin National Park so as to lift the ban on the construction of a new cable car and other facilities in the ski zone.

The Mayor of Bansko claimed that the solution to both problems could be found by end-February.
