Bulgaria strongly condemns the gunmen raid on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo which left at least 12 people dead and 10 injured on Wednesday, President Rosen Plevneliev has said.

The “barbaric act of violence and terrorism” has “deeply terrified and aggrieved me”, Plevneliev said in a letter to his French counterpart Francois Hollande in which he expressed condolences to the families of the innocent people killed in the attack.

“Bulgaria is sharing the pain of the French people and will continue its cooperation with its partners in the fight against terrorism,” Plevneliev said.

Prime Minister Boyko Borisov also condemned the attack, saying no cause can justify terrorism.

“This bloody terrorist act has caused our anger against the violent loss of human life and the encroachment upon the freedom of speech,” Borisov said in a statement.
