South Korea Concerned Over North Korea's Cyber Army, Nuclear Weapons

The Defence Ministry of South Korea expressed its concern over the growing cyber army of North Korea and the progress its rival has made in nuclear weapons.

According to the claims, North Korea has a 6000-strong cyber army dedicated to disrupting South Korea's government and military, the Guardian reports.

The figure is double on the earlier estimate made by former South Korean defence minister Kim Kwan-jin in 2013.

South Korea has accused its rival of carrying out at least six high-profile cyber attacks since 2007.

Recently the US accused North Korea of a cyber attack on Sony Pictures because of the release of “The Interview” movie, which portrays the assassination of Kim Jong-un by two journalists hired by the CIA.

Seoul's Defence Ministry also stated in a report that Pyongyang might have gained the ability to strike the US mainland due to the recent progress it has made in missile technology.

This was evidenced by five long-range missile tests in 2009 and 2012 and the progress made towards minituarised nuclear warheads, which could be mounted on such missiles.

North Korea has made three nuclear tests, the most recent being in February 2013, the BBC reminds.
