A meeting at the level of political directors from the foreign ministries of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France will take place in Berlin on Monday.

The so-called “Normandy format” meeting will discuss the progress in the implementation of the Minsk Accords and the possibilities for a settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, TASS news agency reports.

Russia will be represented by Viktor Sorokin, director of the second department for CIS affairs, while the director of the department of politics and communications Oleksiy Makeyev will attend for Ukraine

So far Germany and France have not disclosed the names of their representatives at the meeting.

Apart from discussing the implementation of the provisions of the Minsk Accords, the meeting will also prepare the ground for future encounters of the Normandy format at higher level.

Recently, Germany's Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier expressed hope that the humanitarian obligation to help people in Eastern Ukraine during the winter might lead to the settlement of the crisis.

At the end of December 2014 Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that a Normandy meeting at the summit level might be held in Astana on January 15.
