Donetsk Rebels Nationalizing Ukraine Companies in Donbass

All state-owned companies in Ukraine's Donbass region have been de facto nationalized, rebels say.

Alexander Zakharchenko, head of self-proclaimed "Donetsk People's Republic', has said in a press statement that in case of entities with "state participation" the rebel authorities are intending to "step in" as " business partners".

Similar steps are not ruled out with regard to "private assets", but the step will be considered by studying "each separate case", Russian business daily RBC quotes him as saying.

Zakharchenko maintains the "People's Republics" are not currently mulling to abandon Ukraine's currency hrivnya, but the move will be tied to the outcome of the Minsk dialogue's next rounds.

Earlier in 2014, he had dismissed any prospect of nationalization, saying a lot of privately-owned entities were helping the Donbass economy by offering employment.
