The EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIFISH) has kept Bulgaria’s 2015 turbot quota unchanged at 43.2 tonnes.

Bulgaria’s national turbot quota was decided during Monday’s sitting of AGRIFISH, where Bulgaria was represented by Agriculture Minister Desislava Taneva.

Taneva managed to convince AGRIFISH representatives to refrain from imposing the planned 15% cut on Bulgaria’s national quota.

Taneva, as cited by the press office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, declared that the existing model of imposing cuts to the quotas of EU countries only was inefficient.

She underscored that the mechanism was injurious to EU Member States as it was only applied by them.

Bulgaria’s Agriculture Minister claimed that the real challenge was to create equal conditions for all Black Sea countries and establish a management model which was applied and observed by all of these states.

She was adamant that Bulgaria would keep working to prevent illegal fishing.
