Exit polls predict an electoral victory for the Liberal Democratic Party of the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the early parliamentary elections that took place in the country on Sunday.

The Prime Minister, who had been elected in 2012, called early elections in order to attract more support for his economic reforms after the country entered into recession in the second half of 2014.

Despite the clear victory, analysts suggest that the Liberal Democratic Party will not be able to win two thirds majority in Parliament, which will necessitate the maintenance of the coalition with its junior partner Komeito.

The voter turnout on Sunday was low due to voter apathy and heavy snow, reaching just 35 % two hours before the polling stations closed, the BBC reports.
