The Electronic Governance Council, which should coordinate the introduction of digital administration in Bulgaria, will be headed by the Deputy Prime Minister on coalition policy and state administration Rumyana Bachvarova.

This was decided at the regular meeting of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, private bTV station reports.

This body was created in 2011 during the first term of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov (2009-2013).

The Oresharski Cabinet decided to renew its activity in May 2014, entrusting it to the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Development Daniela Bobeva.

The government of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski left as a legacy a roadmap on electronic governance for 2014 and 2015, as well as a strategy for e-governance, according to which state administration should become 100 % digitilised by 2020.

The decision of the Borisov Cabinet also provides for the establishment of business council gathering representatives of organisations from the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector, which is to assist the work of the e-governance council.

The membership of the e-governance council will be updated according to the new structure of the government.

Information Technology and Electronic Governance Directorate will be established within the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications (MTITC).

The functions of the e-governance council, its secretary and secretariat, will be specified in order to provide more efficient functioning of the council.
