Radan Kanev, leader of the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) party and Co-Chair of the Reformist Bloc, has demanded that the Supreme Judicial Council (VSS) resign collectively.

In a Monday interview for bTV, he insisted that the collective resignation of the governing body of the judiciary was the indispensable action that would pave the way for clearing the system.

Kanev argued that the situation, which had become intolerable, called for immediate and comprehensive reforms.

Asked to comment on the claim of French Ambassador to Bulgaria Xavier Lapeyre de Cabanes that there were “rotten apples” in Bulgaria’s judicial system, Kanev noted that a statement of this kind coming from a diplomat meant that the problem was very big.

The French Ambassador to Bulgaria complained in a TV interview about corruption in the judiciary and informed that the theft of a Bulgarian branch of a French company specializing in the production and trade of wine and vodka was being plotted through a decision of a judge at the Sofia City Court, Rumyana Chenalova.

In his Monday interview, Kanev insisted that no market economy could be productive without justice, according to reports of dnevnik.bg.

The Co-Chair of the Reformist Bloc pointed out that Bulgaria was losing substantial portions of foreign investment because of that, adding that the comingling of political, economic, and judicial power was the biggest problem of the country and it signaled the presence of mafia.

He insisted that the judicial system was plagued by substantial mismanagement for which VSS was to blame, adding that although the judicial system was independent, its problemswere not supposed to be passed over in silence.
