Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov told lawmakers on Friday he was calling in an extraordinary government session next week over the country's preparedness for new flash floods in the spring.

The state of water dams, as well as their ownership (which in some cases has remained oblique for years), provoked Borisov's decision after the subject was touched by an opposition MP while Parliament was hearing the Prime Minister.

Borisov said tackling the issue cannot be "delayed" anymore and promised he would give set a deadline for the Council of Ministers to outline measures against prospective flash floods.

Bulgaria was severely hit by floods throughout the summer, in a surprisingly rainy season which caused rivers to swell and sweep across the country, claiming more than a dozen lives.
