The National Assembly voted to increase the budget of the National Health Insurance Fund (NZOK) with further BGN 100 million.

The update of the NZOK's budget for 2014 was approved by the members of Parliament without debates at a second reading.

This is the second update of the NZOK's financial framework after the previous legislature voted to grant BGN 225 M more to the fund at its last session before it was dissolved on August 6.

Half of the funds or BGN 50 million will be allocated to health insurance payments for medical aid provided in hospitals, while BGN 15 million will go for treatment of malignant diseases.

Another BGN 25 million are allocated for medicines used in domestic treatment, which are paid by the Health Fund, and further BGN 10 million go for medical products, applied in hospital treatment.

The update was necessary after the execution of the NZOK budget for 2014 revealed an emerging lack of funds under health insurance payments.
