Lithuania is to supply Ukraine with military aid, the two countries' Presidents, Dailia Grybauskaite and Petro Poroshenko announced on Monday.

During a joint press conference following a Kiev meeting of the two heads of state Poroshenko stated that the two countries have agreed on the supply of concrete elements of armament, without specifying the exact weapons in question.

The possibility of training Ukrainian military personnel in Lithuania was also discussed.

According to Poroshenko the decision on Ukranian membership to NATO should be taken at a country-wide referendum.

The German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier declared himself yesterday against Ukraine's membership to NATO.

Steinmeier said in an interview for Spiegel magazine that he foresaw the establishment of partnership between Kiev and NATO, but not accession of the country into the Alliance.

Meanwhile, fighting in the Donbass continues, with three Ukrainian soldiers killed in a shootout with pro-Russian rebels in the last 24 hours.

According to the Defence Ministry in Kiev, the government positions in the Donbas have been attacked 56 times.

In the city of Donetsk 12 people were admitted to hospital having suffered shrapnel injuries, while the artillery shelling of the city continues.
