In a letter addressed to Boyko Borisov, US President Barack Obama congratulated him on being re-elected for his second term as Prime Minister of Bulgaria.

Obama said he was looking forward to continuing his work with Borisov and to deepening the bilateral relationship between Bulgaria and the US, according to the press office of the Bulgarian government.

The US President stated that at a time of numerous regional and global challenges, the USA could rely on Bulgaria to act as an ally and friend in the process of moving forward the two countries' common Euro-Atlantic goals.

Obama argued that the two countries had to extend their support for Ukraine's sovereignty in the face of Russian aggression, adding that it necessitated the strict application of sanctions.

Mentioning the tenth anniversary of Bulgaria's NATO membership, the US President expressed his gratitude for Bulgaria's long-term commitment in Afghanistan and its contribution to the international efforts aimed at counteracting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

Obama expressed hopes that Borisov would continue to guide the country on the path of reforms, including combating corruption at all levels, with the aim of establishing a stronger and more prosperous Bulgaria and a climate favorable to foreign investments.

The US President congratulated Bulgaria on accommodating thousands of refugees and encouraged the efforts aimed at ensuring their social integration.

Obama pledged support for Bulgaria’s activities aimed at asserting the need for tolerance.

He concluded by wishing Borisov a successful second term in office.
