GERB's Menda Stoyanova Calls For Responsibility From Central Bank Chiefs

GERB MP Menda Stoyanova, chair of the parliamentary budget committee, urged the managerial board of Bulgaria's Central Bank (BNB) to assume the moral responsibility for the problems of Corporate Commercial Bank (KTB).

“The entire managerial board of BNB, without exception, must assume the moral responsibility,” Stoyanova told the bTV national television breakfast show. In her words, BNB Governor Ivan Iskrov was to blame and bears the responsibility for letting the image of Bulgaria's Central Bank be smeared.

Stoyanova, however, said she was not going to call for BNB chiefs resignations, as by law the bank was politically independent.

She outlined four levels of responsibility in the KTB case – of the bank owners and managers, of BNB who failed to oversee their actions, the financial intelligence services and the DANS national security agency and the auditor KPMG who approved the bank's financial reports.
