Bulgaria's junior partner in government, the Reformist Bloc, is to have a leader after a special congress in January of February 2015, a Bulgarian news outlet claims.

The RB, a loose coalition of right-leaning parties, failed to pick a member to head the entire alliance when it was to set up a congress in September but the idea was abandoned in the last minute over tensions between various parties.

For months the bloc has been marked by a silent competition between some of its leaders.

On Saturday, however, the bloc seems to have renewed attempts to call a congress, with rules to elect a leader and also to raise candidates to be agreed within the next few weeks, the website Dnevnik.bg reports.

Lack of leadership at the RB has resulted in contradictory messages and position during the government consultations phase which ended last week.

Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) Chair Radan Kanev, currently the RB's leader in Parliament, was tipped to head the bloc in September and is now the most likely candidate of his party.

Leaders of two major parties, Meglena Kuneva and Bozhidar Lukarski (Chairs of DBG and SDS respectively) will not run as they are now part of the government, but it is not certain whose candidacies they will put forward.
