Bulgaria’s New Health Minister Pledges Electronic Services by end-2015

Petar Moskov, Bulgaria’s new Health Minister, has vowed to make everything possible to make sure that Bulgarians have electronic medical records, electronic health insurance account, and electronic prescription forms by end-2015.

“Medicine should make a gradual but convincing return to hospitals at the expense of commerce,” Moskov stated Monday in an interview for the morning broadcast of Nova TV.

He insisted that the fact that quantity was decisive in the sphere of healthcare had to change, stressing that it was not business but a highly specialized activity which required high pay levels.

Moskov pointed out that the increase in health insurance contributions was not among the priority tasks of the government, despite the calls of doctors for the step.

He said that he would strive to achieve a salary increase in the sphere of healthcare.

Bulgaria’s new Health Minister also noted that healthcare reform could only be implemented against the backdrop of clear parliamentary support.
