The fiscal gap in Bulgaria's Ministry of Interior is currently projected to reach BGN 170 M by end-2014, its new head Veselin Vuchkov said.

On the day his ministry is celebrating its 135th anniversary, Vuchkov voiced his hope that he could rely on support from lawmakers to rein in the deficit.

He insisted both reforms at the institution and change in the legislation regulating its activity are needed.

In Vuchkov's words, the former General Directorate Combating Organized Crime (or GDBOP, dissolved by the previous elected government) has to be restored at the Interior Ministry.

In May, the current Interior Ministry Act was passed after fierce debates by the previous Parliament dominated by MPs from the then-ruling socialist-liberal coalition.

The minister also asserted all political parties either taking part or supporting the government are unanimous that the cabinet should go on with building a wall along the entire border with Turkey to curb immigration, a proposal included in the coalition agreement signed Thursday.
