Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev is to give GERB leader Boyko Borisov the government mandate on Wednesday.

The move follows a few days of consultations with political parties at Bulgaria's Presidency.

Plevneliev has to hold the last round of talks, attended by the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), prior to meeting Borisov.

The leader of GERB will have a week to form a cabinet under the Constitution. If his attempt fails, the second-largest party BSP will receive the mandate.

If socialists also decide to return mandate, the President has to give it to a third party which he considers appropriate.

Conservatives hope to form a minority cabinet.

GERB for their part are to meet representatives of their prospective coalition partners, the Reformist Bloc (RB), and the two parties from which they expect support for the minority coalition, the Patriotic Front (PF) and Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV).

The PF announced late on Tuesday it would reject GERB and the RB's government program "as it is", while ABV are yet to decide whether or not to back the government.

The government lineup, which has not yet been announced, is to be put to a vote in Parliament on Friday.
