Bulgaria Elected Member of International Telecommunications Union Council

Bulgaria has been elected a member of the Council of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) for the seventh time in a row.

Bulgaria won one of the 48 seats on the ITU Council, representing Eastern Europe and Northern Asia, alongside four other countries, including Azerbaijan, Poland, Romania, and Russia.

Veselin Bozhkov, Chair of the Communications Regulation Commission (CRС), headed the Bulgarian delegation at the 2014 International Telecommunication Union Plenipotentiary Conference in Busan, South Korea.

Bulgaria won its seventh consecutive 4-year term in the governing body of the ITU for the period 2014-2018, according to a media statement of the CRC.

Bulgaria has been a member of the ITU since 1880.

The ITU currently brings together 193 countries and over 700 private-sector entities and academic institutions.
