Borisov Ready To Offer Ministerial Posts In Exchange For Support

GERB leader Boyko Borisov is ready to give ministerial posts to other parties in exchange for support and shared responsibility for policies, according to an interview for the Pressa daily.

He told the newspaper that he was willing to make reasonable compromises in exchange for support for his government, but would not accept conditions on posts.

“For example, if the Bulgarian Socialist Party has reasonable ideas on defence, I don't see why I can't give them the opportunity to propose one of their own for defence minister,” Borisov said. “Or if Meglena Kuneva's people (of the Reformist Bloc) are ready to solve the education problems, I would accept their proposal for a minister.”

Borisov added that he will personally hold the coalition negotiations with the other party leaders.

At the same time, Borisov's deputy Tsvetan Tsvetanov told the bTV national channel that GERB will seek a broad parliamentary majority, but would not count on the Reformist Bloc, which was deemed the most likely partner of GERB.

According to Tsvetanov, Borisov was the most logical choice for prime minister.

“If, however, the only party that supports Borisov's bid to form a government is the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS), then it must be clear that Borisov will resign.”

Tsetska Tsacheva, former Speaker of Parliament from GERB, also said the party will seek a broad coalition. “It would have been nice to start the negotiations with the party closest to our centre-right policies, but the Reformist Block statements are too arrogant in their demands that Boyko Borisov should not be prime minister,” Tsacheva told Nova TV. “Borisov will be GERB's choice for prime minister.”

Meanwhile, Petar Moskov of the Reformist Bloc told BNT the coalition would support the majority in Parliament, if there was a clear coalition agreement. “We need a consensual political figure for prime minister,” Moskov said.

According to him, the new government could be set up by at least three parties or coalitions and added that if no majority could be formed, the Reformist Bloc will not be the cause of new early elections.

"We neither support, nor not support GERB," Moskov said. "The Reformist Bloc supports a programme, which could change the main sectors of Bulgaria's politics and economy, we support new faces in politics, because change comes with new faces."
