The police in the Greek city of Thessaloniki nabbed four Bulgarians in an attempt to put EUR 6 thousand fake banknotes in circulation.

One of the Bulgarians has been under investigation for being part of a counterfeit money trade channel which has led the police to the other three persons involved in the scheme.

During a police check up of two vehicles with Bulgarian registration, the officers found the fake Euro notes sewed in an extra pocket of a garment. The total number of seized banknotes was 299, Bulgaria's National Radio reports.

The police had been expecting the shipment of counterfeit money which is sold for 30% of the nominal value at the black market in Thessaloniki.

The investigation of the case is ongoing.
