More than 800 companies are taking part in the 70th International Technical Fair which opened Monday in Plovdiv, Bulgaria's second-biggest city.

This year’s edition to be held between September 29 and October 4 brings together companies from 37 countries operating in the field of engineering, construction, electronics, energy, ecology, water management, IT, transport, etc.

Interim Deputy Prime Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva launched the event, voicing her optimism about the future of business in Bulgaria.

With the crisis still in full swing for many sectors, a vast part of the stands will be empty, the number of companies attending is still going down compared to previous years.

"New Life" has been the slogan of the fair for several years now, with innovation being at the core of many exhibition.

The International Technical Fair is considered to be one of the prestigious business forums for investment goods and technologies in Southeast Europe.

Its exhibition calendar comprises multi-branch fairs and trade exhibitions covering key sectors of Bulgarian economy. It is the organizer of important trade forums in the country, opening up prospects for the Bulgarian producers to emerge on the international markets.

It was the fair's predecessor, the First Bulgarian Exhibition in 1892, where the first bulb in the country was lighted for the first time.

More than 122 years later, novelties to be unveiled in Plovdiv will be thirty-one.

Fourteen of them will be shown for the first time at a worldwide level, four at a European, and thirteen will be new to the Bulgarian market.
