Bulgaria’s Supreme Judicial Council (VSS) failed to elect a Chair of the Supreme Court of Cassation (VKS).

None of the two candidates managed to muster the necessary17 votes.

Out of a total of 24 VSS members who took part in the voting, Tanya Raykovska was backed by 15 votes, with 6 votes against and 3 abstentions, while Pavlina Panova was backed by 9 votes, with 8 votes against and 7 abstentions.

The failure to elect a VKS Chair on September 25 means that a new procedure has to be organized, according to reports of dnevnik.bg.

If no VKS Chair is elected by November 20, when the term in office of the incumbent, Lazar Gruev, expires, VSS will have to elect an interim Chair among Gruev’s deputies.
