The motorway section from Kalotina to road junction Hrabarsko may be completed in 3 years, according to Lazar Lazarov, Chair of the Management Board of Bulgaria’s Road Infrastructure Agency.

Lazarov, as cited by Monitor daily, explained that the 32-kilometer-long motorway section covered almost fully the motorway section from Sofia to the Bulgaria-Serbia border.

He said that a detailed site development plan had been prepared for the motorway section.

“The expropriation procedures are underway and if they are successfully completed by mid-2015, construction works may be launched so that it can be finalized in 2 years,” Lazarov noted.

Lazarov informed that the project would be funded with loans by the European Investment Bank under the program European Transport Corridors, adding that this form of investment made it possible to complete projects faster than ones using EU funding.

“We save the time necessary to write the application form and for its subsequent approval. The RIA has 20 years of experience of work with the EIB. Lot 1 and Lot 5 of the Trakia motorway were built with their assistance,” he reminded.

Lazarov said that the last section of the Sofia-Kalotina motorway at the village of Hrabarsko and its connection to the future Sofia Northern Speed Tangent would be built last and would probably be completed around 2020.

He also announced that the remaining southern part of the western arc of the Lyulin motorway to the government residence in Boyana was to be completed over the next few years, as well as the last section of the southern arc from the Mladost residential district to the Trakia motorway via the village of German.
