6 Bulgarian Districts under Code Orange Weather Alert over Heavy Rains

Code orange weather warning over heavy rains has been issued for six Bulgarian districts for September 16, including Montana, Vratsa, Plovdiv, Smolyan, Pazardzhik and Sofia district.

Code orange means that the meteorological phenomena envisaged in the forecast pose a potential risk to life and property.

Code yellow weather alert for potentially dangerous weather conditions has been issued for 12 Bulgarian districts, including Vidin, Pleven, Lovech, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Haskovo, Stara Zagora, Kardzhali, Blagoevgrad, Kyustendil, Pernik and Sofia city, according to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

Areas which are to have cumulative precipitation of 30-40 l/sq m are under a code orange alert, while districts which expect total rainfall of 20-30 l/sq m are under a code yellow alert.

Substantial increases in water levels are expected in the following rivers: Archar and its tributary Salashka, Lom in its upper stream (its tributary Krastavichka), Ogosta in its upper stream (tributaries Prevalska and Martinovska), Malak Iskar, Maritsa in its upper stream and its tributaries Yadenitsa and Chepinska.
