Journalists, teachers, police officers, plumbers, and trade workers were found to be consuming the most coffee sinking over four cups daily, a new study by pressat.co.uk shows.

The list of professions dependent on caffeine, continues with nurses and medical staff, company executives and telesales agents who drink an average of 3-4 cups of coffee. IT technical support and retail staff consume 2-3 cups a day. Finally, there are drivers who drink 1-2 cups of coffee a day.

Out of the 10,000 professionals who were included in the survey, 85% said they drink at least three cups of coffee a day, and nearly 70 per cent admitted that their working ability would be affected without a daily mug of coffee. 71% responded that they drink coffee because of the caffeine, not because of taste or smell.

On average the survey found that men drink more coffee than women but only slightly more at 5 per cent.

Experts warn that the consumption of more than four cups of coffee daily may increase blood pressure and can cause increased risk to health, from strokes to anxiety, and right through to heart problems, although the survey found that 62% of workers were not aware of the health risks.
