Trafficking of 30 Endangered Jaco Parrots Prevented at Bulgarian Border

Bulgaria's customs officers have prevented the trafficking of 30 parrots with false documents on Sunday, the Customs Agency announced.

A mobile group in the northwestern city of Vidin inspected a vehicle in the area of Danube Bridge 2. The driver was a Bulgarian traveling to the Czech Republic.

He was transporting 30 African grey parrots Jaco, for which he showed Dutch certificate CITE - International Convention regulating the trade of endangered species of wild fauna and flora.

A check with the help of experts from the Ministry of Environment and Water showed that the documents were fake.

The driver was issued a customs violation statement, the parrots were seized and will be given to the Regional Inspectorate - Montana.
